All children deserve a safe, comfortable place to lay their heads. All across the US, too many boys and girls go without a bed—or even a pillow—to sleep on. These children end up sleeping on couches, blankets, and even floors. This can affect their happiness and health. That’s where Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) comes in. They’re a group of volunteers dedicated to building, assembling and delivering top-notch bunk beds to children and families in need. At SHP, they fully believe that a bed is a basic need for the proper physical, emotional, and mental support that a child needs.

Local kids are served by local volunteers supported by local organizations. These kids live mostly in Dakota and Scott Counties. They are 3 to 17 years of age. And they don’t have a bed of their own. Some of these kids sleep with their parents, some on mattresses pulled from dumpsters, some on air mattresses that deflate during the night, some on a nest of clothing on the floor. A lot of these kids have never had a bed of their own, a place of physical and emotional security, proven to improve performance in school, sports and artistic pursuits while reducing mood swings and behavior issues. The Twin Cities South chapter has delivered over 2,300 beds in 6 years and plans to build and deliver over 700 beds in 2023! Applications come from families, friends and agencies. Holy Trinity is excited to gain first-hand knowledge of SHP. We will be banding together to volunteer at a bed building event on Saturday, September 9 at 8:30am in Burnsville. In just over 2 hours, we’ll contribute to building over 140 beds to be given to kids in our community that don’t have a bed of their own.
