Our culture’s playlist says we can do it on our own, that we don’t need anyone else, can’t rely on anyone else. Jesus calls us to listen to his playlist on repeat and stay deeply connected to him. We listen on repeat through spiritual practices.
Our culture’s playlist is about making ourselves famous. God’s people sing a song that makes God’s name famous, which happens through deep trust, speaking God’s powerful name into every challenge.
Our culture’s playlist has a huge collection of rules that are daunting for rule followers and rule breakers alike. Jesus gives us a playlist with one rule that has the capacity to change the world.
Our culture’s playlist encourages us to compare and judge our neighbor, to critique and condemn their life and life choices. Jesus’ playlist invites us to look within, get a clear picture of our own life first, and attend to the parts of our lives that need critical attention.
Our culture’s playlist sings out “be afraid.” Some fears are founded; others are not. The culture’s playlist makes us fearful that we will not have enough, do enough, or be enough. People of God have a different playlist – “Do not be afraid.” If you listen to Jesus’ playlist you will have enough, do enough,…
Our hearts are distracted by so many competing voices, listening to playlists that are not the Word of God. When you listen to Jesus’ playlist, your heart will be pulled out of distraction.
