The root of conflict is a simple question of who is in and who is out. The pitfall common among religious people that works against the Great Commandment to love God and neighbor is that those who are most committed, if they are not careful, can become self-righteous and begin to think that they should control the doors that determine who’s in and who’s out. Jesus, however, encourages us to not make distinctions. Everyone is a beloved child of God, and everyone ought to be considered “in.”
