Hi, and welcome to Week Four in our online Lent reflection series! If this is your first time visiting, you can find more info about this online group on the introduction post. If you decide you would like to officially join this online group, text me or send an email to kidsandfamilies@htumc.org and I will send you the coloring sheets and a reminder when next week’s video releases, and start your candy bag with a piece added for every time you contribute a comment to the discussion. If you would rather pick up a printed copy of the coloring sheets, let me know and I will help with that. Below are some pics of coloring sheets from previous weeks; if you would like to share a shot of yours, or even just a close up of a favorite bit of one of yours, send it to me and I will add it in!
Now, let’s reflect.
Discussion Questions
- What are some songs or scriptures you know by heart like Jesus and his community knew the Psalms?
- How would you describe the two voices in the Psalm?
Going Deeper
- Can you share a story of a time you’ve known God’s nearness?
- Can you share a story of a time you’ve felt God to be far away?
- Do you ever struggle with the distance between what you know is true from your faith and what feels true in your circumstances? How do you manage that difference?

I start every day before I get out of bed with prayer and with reciting from memory Psalm 100 to joyfully welcome God to my day and praise him. When I am feeling like something I need is missing I recite Psalm 23.
I feel the closeness of God most often when I am camping at the lake. I am always moved by the beauty of the world he created, and I feel his love for me.
There have been many times in my life when I felt God was far away – AT THE TIME, but later on when I look back I realize he was always there, just waiting for me to turn to him. Now I try not to take so long to do that.
When what I know to be God’s truth doesn’t match what I feel, first I talk honestly to God about my feelings then I place my trust in his care because he tells us to “be still and know that I am God”. Psalm 46:10. God is the one with the right timing and the right answers, not me.
I also love reaching for Psalm 23, especially when I am awake at night or having trouble settling down to rest, and I love Philippians 4:4-8 when I am anxious. I completely agree with your other comments too! God’s timing and plan can all be trusted, remembering to trust is the part that is left up to us.
